Background and Education
Dr. Lawrence D. Weinberg, author of the landmark book, Religious Charter Schools: Legalities and Practicalities, grew up in
New York City and Denver, Colorado. Growing up, he primarily
attended Jewish day schools, including Hillel Academy,
Yeshiva Rabbi Moses Soloveichik, and Rocky Mountain
Hebrew Academy. However, he also briefly attended public
high school.
Dr. Weinberg has been written about in various publications and was a presenter at the White House Summit on Inner-City Children and Faith-Based Schools.
He has a bachelor's and a master's
degree in Education from Northwestern University, and
a law degree and Doctor of Education degree from Boston
University.
Dr. Weinberg's experience includes
work as an attorney, professor, teacher, author, and
consultant. He holds bars in Massachusetts, New Jersey,
and New York, and is a certified social studies teacher
in Illinois and New Jersey.
Professional Life
Dr. Weinberg was a professor of Educational
Leadership at Northwest Missouri State University. There, he taught school administrators who were doctoral
students, sat on the Human Subjects Committee (Institutional
Review Board) and Multicultural Affairs Committee, and
supervised student teachers. He has delivered workshops
in various venues. Additionally, he has served as a teacher at a school for special-needs children.
As an attorney, Dr. Weinberg was a
litigator specializing in complex commercial litigation
and in a support capacity for commercial transactions.
He also specialized in writing briefs and memoranda
of law for other attorneys. He wrote the brief and was
one of the attorneys of record in Parks
v. Commerce Bank, 377 N.J. Super. 378, 872 A.2d
111 (N.J. App. Div. 2005), in which the Appellate Division
of the Superior Court of New Jersey held that a bank
cannot stop payment on a cashier’s check or wire transfer
without customer consent.

In addition to his book about religious
charter schools, Dr. Weinberg has written numerous articles
about religion, law and education. A full list of his

Dr. Weinberg has been interviewed by
reporters for Education Week and The Wall Street Journal
related to articles discussing religious-themed charter
schools and public schools in Florida, New York, and
elsewhere. Dr. Weinberg was quoted in The
Wall Street Journal.
He has written a commentary and letters
to the editor related to religious charter schools that
have appeared in Education
Week, The
Jewish Exponent, and The Florida Jewish News.
